Become a Content! Content! Directory Manager
This is a brief guideline to the responsibilities and benefits to being a Directory Manager at Content! Content! If you have any additional questions or problems, please feel free to e-mail me at wenz@twcny.rr.com.
What is a Directory Manager?
A directory manager is a person who is in charge of one of the topic areas here at the Content! Content! Network and the relating directory. The current topics we have definitely decided to go with are: Arts, Beauty& Style, Business & Economy, Computers & Technology, Education, Entertainment, Family, Food & Drink, Health & Fitness, History, Hobbies & Games, Home & Garden, Humor, Kids, Medicine, Mind & Spirit, News, Pets & Animals, Religion, Science, Society & Culture, Sports, Sports, Travel, Women, and Writing. We will be adding more topic areas/directories, so if you have a suggestion, please let us know. We will also creating subdirectories in these larger areas as more sites join the network. You can see a sample directory here.
What would I have to do?
At the beginning, all you would have to do is customize your directory area with our help, rotate the featured site, and be patient. For now, I will be handling all of the additions of new members and the coding involved with that process. This is because we haven't finished the back end code that allows you to handle the changes with just a click of a button and we do not think it is fair to require the managers to learn how to use the code. (Although if you want to learn for the short term until we have everything automated we are more than willing to teach you.)
Eventually you will be able to add and remove member sites simply by clicking a list and add and remove featured articles simply by clicking a list. You also will be asked to choose a featured site at least every two weeks. You can do it more often than that if you like, but it should not be less frequently than that.
Those are the only responsibilities we require for directory managers. Some people have expressed interest in creating mailing lists, monitoring forums, finding advertisers, offering classes, holding live chats, and offering other things from their sites - but those are not necessary. We just won't prevent you from doing it and especially at first most directory managers will not be doing that.
We do require that you either have a site that is a member of the network or that you are in the process of adding a site to the network before we will make you a Directory Manager. It is important to us that you have demonstrated a commitment to the network before we hand over a directory to you. If you do not have a site, we can help you set up and run a site. In addition, your site does not have to be in the topic area that you want to manage. We would prefer it, but it is not a requirement.
What do you mean by "customize" my directory?
We allow lots of flexibility in how your directory appears. You can design your own logo - or talk with us about design options and preferences and we will design one for you. You control the whole color scheme for your directory. All you have to do is pick a websafe color and we will change all of your directory pages and logos etc. to that color. You can move around the different elements and arrange them as you like. You also will be able to add a picture of yourself or a logo and a description of yourself, your website(s), professional services, etc.
Why would I want to be a directory manager?
There are a few reasons why one might want to be a directory manager. It will provide extra traffic to your site/business and will hopefully increase your traffic and profit that way. In addition, you will receive the proceeds from the advertising on your directory pages. You also can add affiliate links to items or related stores/sites. Items *must* be related on the directory pages themselves. (Of course, you are unrestricted on your own website, just in case anyone gets confused! It is just the pages hosted in the Content! Content! directories that have the limitations.) We are pretty liberal about what defines "related" but we don't want people to feel that they are being bombarded with links not because we think they will find them useful but because we want to just make a buck. The other reason is that we are a small volunteer run network. Managing a directory is one way that you can help us and provide for a better network.
How do I become a Directory Manager?
E-mail me and let me know what topic you want to manage. I am not going to wait and assemble a pool of candidates and then try to choose the "best" one for the job. I will be choosing directory managers on a first come, first serve basis - but please remember that as we create subdirectories that more openings will be available.
